Graduate of an accredited program. RHIA or RHIT and CCS
required. Experience coding outpatient, outpatient surgery, and inpatient
required.



A. Auditing



Analyzes and evaluates clinical and operational systems
relative to hospital inpatient and outpatient reimbursement through chart
review and other special study methods.



Recommends, develops and oversees implementation of process
changes for data quality improvements and revenue enhancements.



Performs concurrent coding quality audits as required by the
Corporate Compliance Plan and maintains records pertaining to quality audit and
case mix analysis. Provides info to Corporate Compliance as required by policy.



Performs review of physician queries and dispositions as
necessary to ensure appropriateness of such.



Coordinates external retrospective quality audits and
provides feedback/education to coding staff regarding findings.



Assist in the development and monitoring of quality
benchmarks for coding staff.



 



B. Educating



Provides feedback to the Business office staff regarding
ICD-9-CM/CPT-4 coding, sequencing and DRG assignment.



Utilizes feedback from billing system edits, billing
management, etc. to coordinate educational efforts to eliminate repetition of
billing errors related to coding and/or documentation needs.



Develops, coordinates, or provides education programs to
assist in maintaining Continuing Education Units for staff.  This would include obtaining approval through
AHIMA for educational sessions provided internally.



In accordance with coding guidelines, educates individuals
and/or groups regarding:



-              Reimbursement,



-              Code,
ASC, APC, and DRG Assignment, and



-              Appropriate
documentation



Provides training for inpatient and outpatient coders to
include a structured monitoring and review process.  In accordance with coding guidelines,
provides coder education on all issues/changes which will impact coding.



C.           Other



Provides coverage assistance as necessary for the coding
manager and coding staff.



Communicates cooperatively on a daily basis with coding
staff to promote team approach to coding compliance.



Contributes and/or leads team education efforts and
activities.



Promotes good morale and cooperation.



Encourages others and values their input.



Anticipates and responds to changing skills
requirements.
